East Greenbush Central School District’s energy-efficient practices have earned the district significant savings, and now those efforts are earning national recognition.
Energy Education, a national energy conservation company, presented East Greenbush Central School District with its Energy Excellence Award at the May 4 Board of Education meeting. Through its partnership with Energy Education, the district has realized $1,466,686 in cost savings over the last 42 months by implementing behavioral and organizational change to substantially reduce energy consumption.
The district’s energy savings come from the cooperative efforts of teachers and staff at each of the district’s facilities. As part of the program, District Energy Education Manager Thomas Brownell tracks energy consumption — including electricity, water, sewer, natural gas and fuel oil — using energy-accounting software. By tracking consumption and analyzing energy use, he can quickly identify and correct areas that need immediate attention.
“I am extremely pleased to present East Greenbush Central School District with our Energy Excellence Award. The school district joins a very committed group of organizations across the country working hard to achieve energy savings so the dollars saved can be redirected to educational needs,” William S. Spears, chairman and founder of Energy Education.
